June, 15, 2026 Lumbini: A peace walk was organized in Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, to raise public awareness on road accident prevention, drug abuse control, and maintaining peace and security in society.
The program was jointly conducted on Monday by the Area Police Office Lumbini and the Lumbini Province Police Office. The event witnessed strong participation from a wide range of stakeholders, including monks, nuns, Lamas, teachers, students, local residents, government employees, elected representatives, as well as personnel from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force.
The peace walk began from the Eternal Peace Flame located in Lumbini and proceeded approximately two kilometers north, concluding at the International Meditation and Conference Center. The procession moved peacefully through the sacred surroundings of Lumbini, symbolizing collective commitment to social awareness and harmony.
As part of the program, short awareness-based street dramas were performed to highlight the dangers of drug addiction and the importance of road safety. The performances aimed to educate the public in an engaging and impactful way, especially targeting youth and community members.
Speaking at the event, Dan Bahadur Karki, Inspector General of Nepal Police, emphasized that the energy generated from such peace walks should be translated into practical values in daily life. He stated that the teachings of Buddha, compassion, loving-kindness, ethical conduct, and sympathetic joy should be applied in society to help build a more civilized and cultured community.
The program concluded with a shared message of responsibility, urging all participants to contribute actively to road safety, drug-free communities, and peaceful coexistence in line with Buddhist values deeply associated with Lumbini.
