June 5, 2026, Lumbini: The Lumbini Development Trust had the distinct honor of welcoming His Excellency Simon Ernst, Ambassador of Australia to Nepal, to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The visit highlighted the enduring friendship between Nepal and Australia and underscored the importance of fostering cultural exchange, mutual understanding, and cooperation based on the universal values of peace, harmony, compassion, and tolerance that Lumbini represents.
Upon his arrival, Ambassador Ernst was warmly received by the Lumbini Development Trust. The welcoming delegation included Senior Director Mr. Gyanin Rai, Senior Information Officer Mr. Rajan Basnet, and other officials of the Trust. During the visit, the Ambassador was briefed on the historical, cultural, and spiritual significance of Lumbini as one of the world's most important pilgrimage destinations and a global symbol of peace.
The delegation guided His Excellency on a tour of the Lumbini Sacred Garden, where he visited the revered Mayadevi Temple, the sacred site marking the birthplace of Lord Buddha. The Ambassador also observed the Asoka Pillar and other important archaeological remains that testify to Lumbini's outstanding universal value and its significance to millions of Buddhist devotees and peace seekers around the world.
As part of the visit, Ambassador Ernst toured the Lumbini Monastic Zone, an internationally acclaimed complex of monasteries and meditation centers established by Buddhist communities from various countries. The visit provided an opportunity to appreciate the unique architectural diversity and spiritual traditions represented within Lumbini, reflecting the global reach of Buddha's teachings and the shared aspiration for peace among nations.
